Chocolat (1988)

Mr. Man has a taste for the mouthwatering movie Chocolat (1988), not to be confused with Lasse Hallström’s Oscar-nominated flick Chocolat (2000) featuring Johnny Depp or Roschdy Zem’s pic Chocolat (2016) starring Omar Sy. In her directorial debut, Claire Denis follows a French family residing in the Republic of Cameroon. Marc (François Cluzet) and Aimée Dalens (Giulia Boschi) are the parents of France (Cécile Ducasse), an eight-year-old who is curious about the world around her. The inquisitive girl delves deeper in the culture of Cameroon by befriending the family’s house servant Protée (Isaach De Bankolé), who has an amorous eye for her mother. Household dynamics change when a plane crash brings Western drifter Luc Segalen (Jean-Claude Adelin) to the Dalens homestead. The unexpected visitor quickly comments on the sexual attraction between Aimée and Protée, which oddly gives them the green light to satisfy their desires. Even though this makes Madame Dalens an adulteress, we can hardly blame her since the ebony employee is pretty tempting. If you’ve seen him go full frontal in Manderlay (2005), you know exactly what we mean. But when Marc discovers his wife’s affair, he angrily confronts the humping help and sends him packing. Speaking of packing, Monsieur Adelin proves he’s packing some heat when he flashes his abs, shaft and ass while taking an outdoor shower. The same can be said for Monsieur De Bankolé. What can we say other than these French fellows clean up nicely? Ironically, when they wash up we feel a tad dirty!
