New Year's Day (1989)

Once upon a time, holidays meant people went out and partied. But nowadays, so many stay in to stream … a Garry Marshall movie. In between the ensemble dramedies Mother’s Day (2016) and Valentine’s Day (2010), he directed New Year’s Eve (2011) featuring Cary Elwes, Robert De Niro and Zac Efron. Yet decades earlier, film fans were already watching New Year’s Day (1989). Under the pen and direction of Henry Jaglom (who also plays the part of Drew), this festive flick follows former filmmaker Billy (David Duchovny), a recently divorced dude who heads back to the Big Apple in search of a new path in life. Soon, he meets Lucy (Maggie Jakobson), a free-spirited emerging actress, and her best friend Annie (Gwen Welles) who works as a photographer. Last but not least is Winona (Melanie Winter), a magazine editor who wants to get knocked up. Can Billy figure out which of these ladies would be a good fit for him as he begins his new life via the new year? Will Dr. Stadthagen (Michael Emil), Lazlo (Miloš Forman) or Marjorie (Tracy Reiner) provide any insights into his dilemma? And, most importantly, does Mr. Duchovny doff his duds on camera? Fortunately for us, the answer is YES! Just fast forward to the 01:17:56 mark to see him caught with his pants down. As his character cozies up to a woman in bed, Lucy comes in and busts him. When she kicks him out, we can see David’s naked T&A. Happy New Year indeed!
